Security Training Program to be offered in Halifax

HALIFAX – With the growing risk of cyber threats and organizations examining their own ability to protect themselves and others, Mariner is launching a Security Training Program out of its Halifax office.

The five-day program will begin October 30 and will be available for information technology (IT) professionals interested in learning the basic of securing networks, those that are responsible for increasing the cyber-security of their employer and those who are looking to attain the CompTIA Security+ certification.

“Now more than ever, companies and other organizations are assessing whether they are ready to withstand cyber attacks and keep the data they are entrusted with secure,” said Paul Eisner, general manager of Mariner Security Solutions.   “With a global shortage of professionals with the needed skills, Mariner is offering this training in Atlantic Canada, close to home, minimizing the cost and time for travel further afield for similar training elsewhere.”

The CompTIA Security+ Certification Course offered by Mariner is designed to give IT professionals the skills they need to acquire this important certification.  The course covers such topics as types of attacks, security policies, system security, network security, authentication, authorization and cryptography.  By participating in the course, existing security professionals will also earn 30 continuing professional education credits, which will support maintaining their certification.

The company’s training initiatives will be led Sandy Fadale, senior security consultant with Mariner Security Solutions.  Fadale is also the president of the Atlantic Canada chapter of ISACA, a global organization which engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for information systems.

“This course is a great investment for companies and other organizations to make in the skills of their people and the security of their work,” said Fadale.  “I look forward to working with other IT professionals to strengthen our skills for the benefit of companies and other organizations, as well as the customers and other partners that depend on the highest levels of cyber-security.”

As one of the largest independent information technology services firm in Atlantic Canada, Mariner has a proven track record of helping clients innovate beyond complexity.  Since opening for business in 2003, Mariner has developed the top pool of senior hands-on executive talent, delivered advanced IT projects worth more than $2 billion and identified and deployed more than a million hours of skilled talent.
